"World's biggest castle area" Castle Tip by rexvaughan

Prague?s Castle area is a little city in itself with museums, galleries, the palace, a basilica, gardens and a magnificent cathedral. This is said to be the largest castle area in the world and I believe it . This has been the seat of power for the Czechs for centuries: where the kings were elected and resided and could look out over the city; where the legendary Wenceslas is entombed; and even where Franz Kafka lived for a period of time.
We did not do the place justice as we wandered in, watched the end of the changing of the guard and strolled through the old Royal Palace, then toured St. Vitus Cathedral along with hordes of tour groups. This was the one negative note, even though we were there in September and thereby without crowds of school children, the place was jammed with tourists mostly in these groups who tend to coagulate in the aisles. We were frankly not impressed in the palace as the rooms are not particularly large, well furnished or decorated. We did stand on the balcony where Hitler told the local folk how lucky they were to have him there in WWII.
