Old-Town Square, Prague: 265 reviews and 497 photos
The Staromestske Namesti, Old Citysquare, is a big rectangular square in the very centre of Prague. It has a unique surrounding with churches, palaces and houses around it, in different colours and constructionstyles. In the 80's all these building were renovated completely which makes the current square to one of Europe's most beautiful ones.
The Husmonument is situated at the northern side of the square and often is the spot where the young people hang out. The statues of this monument memorise the burned freedom-fighter Jan Hus, that was burned 500 years before the monument was placed, in 1415. The monument is the Czech monument of freedom with famous quotes on it: "I'm sure the power will be back in your hand one day, my beloved Czech people" (Jan Hus) and "Freedom is overcome" (Masaryk).
Around the square the buildings have been renovated are rebuilt several times in the long history of the square. This leads to the fact that a lot of different styles are visible: Roman, Renaissance, Baroc and even Venetian. Surprisingly it all fits together and make a wonderful setting.
