"THE SECRET TOWER" Rabat Off The Beaten Path Tip by DAO

About 2 miles to the East of Rabat/Mdina sits a large tower of a building. When I first asked a shopkeeper in Rabat, he did not know what it was. Another told me the story. It was once a church. They built a large statue to put on top of the building, but the statue weighed too much. When it was placed on top, it cracked the ceiling and the walls. The staue was removed and the church abandoned.

The shopkeeper also told me that he played there as a child, but had not been there for 40 years. He did not know the name of the chucrh or who owned it now.

I walked over (long walk) and took some pictures. Someone does seem to live there and there are signs to stay out.

The walls are massively thick and you can see the cracks clearly when you walk close to the site.
