Camel is one way to go
by Waxbag

Transportation: We used: foot, camel, bicycle rickshaw1, auto rickshaw2, taxi, bus, sleeper bus, and train. Others avail: elephant, cart rickshaw3, motorcycle. 1 3 wheeled bicycle with a seat attached, 2 3-wheeled auto with open sides similar to the tuk-tuk in Africa, 3 wheeled cart usually pulled by a young boy. The train schedule and classes are very confusing and the one time we booked ourselves we ended up in the wrong class so we usually sought help from the guesthouse or hotel and once the tourist agency (I think you all know how I feel about them now) for train and bus bookings. The auto rickshaws seemed to be the best for distances too far to walk but too close for bus and the sleeper buses were a comfortable way to travel long distances overnight (if you are short like me). We did not have good experiences on the trains but we hear from other travelers that 1st and 2nd sleeper train classes are the way to go.
