Favorite thing: Let me just say that there wasn't a garden in England I didn't enjoy but Trelissick had that little bit extra. The lovely water glimpses from time to time just seemed to add so much to the experience.
Looking over the ha ha towards Falmouth is such a relaxing experience I was disappointed my time there was only limited. In another direction you could just see the ships loading the china clay, over 400 of them each year taking away just under one and a half million tonnes. Yet with just a few short steps you would be lost in the woods again.
The are special sections like the Fig Garden, the Scented Garden, the Main Lawn, the Entrance Walk (one of my favourites), the Shaded Walk, the Tregothnan View that overlooks the home of Viscount Falmouth, the Hydrangea Walk, the Dell (probably the best in late spring), the rustic bridge that connects the two sections of the park, the Carcaddon, (a newer planting of flowers) and the Park, the perfect foreground to the view over Carrick Roads.
This is an experience where you should allow at minimum half a day. Taking your time is part of the reason for being here in this special place.
The entry fee is about 6 pounds but, if you're a member of the National Trust, well, you just flaunt your card under their noses.
Fondest memory: Along with Lanhydrock, Trengwainton, Cotehele and others, I can but recommend that while you're in Cornwall you don't miss seeing at least some of them.
