La Peniche: "Terrific Neighborhood Restaurant" New Orleans Restaurant Tip by ckmclements

New Orleans Restaurants: 896 reviews and 877 photos

La Peniche is my favorite restaurant in New Orleans. Wait, make that the whole world. Located on Dauphine Street about a block off Esplanade, this place cannot be beat! The wait staff (most of whom seem to be gay) are just one great part of this establishment. Nothin' like having a complete stranger call you "hon" or "darlin" (seriously...I LOVE that about this place.) The clientele ranges everywhere from leather-clad gay men, to families, and everything in between. It's outside the quarter, and thus is likely to be missed by most, but it's certainly one of NOLA's best kept secrets as far as I'm concerned. This place is open round-the-clock (well, except for from 9 a.m. Thursday until 2 a.m. Tuesday.) It's great for breakfast, lunch, dinner, post-Mardi Gras parade munchies...there's nothing they don't do exceptionally well.

Favorite Dish: Favorite dish? HERE? It's all good. It's all fresh. And, in keeping with typical New Orleans service, it's all EXTREMELY plentiful. If you leave La Peniche hungry, it's your own fault.
