Bab Touma, also known as St Thomas Gate (named after the son-in-law of the Byzantine Emperor Heraclius) stands in the north eastern corner of old city. The original Roman gate standing here was called Gate of Venus. It was reconstructed and added to in 1227 and 1334.

The walls close to the gate are torn down and today the gate stands in the middle of a busy roundabout. After walking through the Old City and only having seen a black and white map I was surprised the first time I came here.
