Shakespeare & Sons: "I think, therefore I am...going to have a beer." Prague Nightlife Tip by RockTadgers

Thanks to it's unavoidable literary reputation (the clue's in the name), this airy little bookshop/bar all the way out in Prague Ten offers sanctuary to beardy-chin scratchers and other intellectual stereotypes, who sit around in their second hand clothes talking about things they read about once.

Peaceful during the day, lively at night, Shakespeare's serve good priced Herold beer and lots of cheap red wine. There's a well stocked rack of papers, magazines and periodicals that makes it easy to while an afternoon away. The adjoining bookshop has a wide range of new and second hand books, although they have the same bandit-like attitude to trading books as any other place.

Every other Wednesday, they offer the chance to anybody who knows how to play a few notes on a guitar to get up and give it what they've got. Since there's no stage, and whoever's playing is basically standing between tables, there is a nice intimate atmosphere to the live music. Shakespeare's deserves credit for encouraging people's creative side, and makes it one of the long haul destinations in the city worth making the journey for.

Dress Code: Converse sneakers, roll neck sweaters, second hand clothes...all the things people wear when they want to look fashionably penniless and literary.

Address: Krymska 12, Praha 10
