Ok, I don't know what religion you are, but I think as someone who can appreciate cultural diversity you will not want to miss this Texas gem. There is a weeping icon in Blanco. It is housed in a beautiful, remotely located among rolling hills, church. The denomination is Russian Orthodox. Curiously, the community is NOT Russian, and the story of way the church is there is also fascinating.

The official title of the icon is: The Myrrh Weeping Icon of Our Lady of New Sarov

Try to go on a Sunday, to attend the services and view the icon. There will be pilgrims there from as far away as Mexico. I saw a tough looking man weep on his knees.

Oh, and don't forget to visit the inevitable gift shop.

Address: New Sarov, Blanco, TX 78606-1049
Directions: Half the fun was trying to find it by talking to locals. Generally speaking, the people have heard of it and will point you in the right direction.

It is called the, Shrine of the Mother of God at Christ of the Hills Russian Orthodox Monastery
