Riviera Chiaia, Naples: 4 reviews and 12 photos
Behind the Villa Comunale, on the Riviera di Chiaia, there is Villa Pignatelli built on 1827 on a project by Pietro Valente on behalf of Francis Acton, English gentleman and consul in Naples. The Villa is preceded by a great arcade pompeiano, conceived with ionic columns of marble and white plaster, which opens on a great meadow whose borders there are different plants of tall stem. The trees are placed along the garden perimeter and behind the Villa, so as to allow a perfect sight toward the sea. The great flowerbed before the villa is separated from a narrow avenue with at the centre the great stone fountain with circular shape. Among the rarest kind of plants that make the garden a true jewel, there are: the araucaria excelsa, the specimen of Grevillea Robusta, the great Ficus Magnolidies, the Strelitzia Augusta and palms of various type. Besides, Villa Pignatelli houses the famous Museum D?Aragona Pignatelli Cortes: this museum was given by Princess Rosina to the State with the clause that at her death, arrived on 1955, ?the apartment in its representative part, should be wholly preserved and that nothing, not even an object could be given for other collections.? So the museum, inaugurated on January 16, 1960 is one of the example of Neapolitan ?house museum?. The Museum is open every day, except on Tuesday, from 9.00 to 14.00 but the ticket office closes at 13.30.
The price of ticket is 2,00 euros but for the citizens of the UE from 18 to 25 years and for the teachers there is a cheap fare ( 1,00 euro). Beside the ticket is free for the citizens of the UE under 18 and over 65. For the group there is the possibility of a didactic visit: 80,00 euros in Italian, 100,00 euros in English, French and German.
