"Exploring the Canals by Gondola" Gondola Tip by ChristaV

Gondola, Venice: 168 reviews and 283 photos

The gondola I find one of the most fascinating watercrafts of the world. The gondolier, stands at the rear end of the boat from where he manouvers it thru the canals effortlessly. The gondolas are 10,87 meters long and measures, at the widest part, 1,42 meters. Since the beginning of time, all gondolas have been black unless they were produced for very special occasions. The gondola is made up of 280 parts, using eight different wood types. The gondolas glide majestically through the canals and is one of the best ways to explore the city.
