"Ride the London Eye" Coca-Cola London Eye Tip by AKtravelers
Coca-Cola London Eye, London: 354 reviews and 580 photos
Built for the Millenium celebration, the London Eye finally gives the city an answer to the Eiffel Tower. Thoiugh it looks like a big ferris wheel, it is not that at all -- it is a half-hour-long "flight" high above the Thames River and the Westminster part of London. It's only real purpose it to give people a weather-pretected view of the city from above -- but that is a worthy purpose in my book!
Sponsored by British Airways, a ride is called a flight and it costs about 14 pounds, so it's not cheap. You get in a rather efficient fast-moving line which ends with you boarding a transparent capsule with 10 other people, likely to be from all corners of the earth. THere is a bench in the middle but you'll be standing most of the time. The views are worth the cost and time involved, as you'll be right above Parliament and have a clear view right into Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street. Warning, there's no bathroom aboard so don't drink that venti Starbuck's right before the ride or you'll be sorry!
Take plenty of photos of the views, but also take a shot of the capsule next to you. It will help you explain the Eye to your friends back home.
