Mark, more commonly know to VTers as ATXtraveler, organised this VT meeting here when he discovered that Jen, better known to VTers as craic, is a vegatarian & he even went & road tested it in advance. Now that's doing market research isn't it.
It has one cool website so please check it out. Very interesting!
When Mark organised this with around 24 Vters coming I was quite pleased as I'm not a bit meat eater & actually was a vegetarian many years ago in my younger, "hippie" days around my college years, but these days with a family it's a lot easier to be an omnivore who eats very little red meat.
It advertises itself as a, "Global Vegetarian Cafe" whatever that exactly means? I was surprised how large it was & I read on their website that they can seat 200 . I can say that it has a very good selection of vegetarian dishes, but more about that below.
I can also tell you that the ambience is pretty good too! It has beautiful 180 degree views over Port Phillip Bay & being upstairs on Level 1 just gives you a nice bit of height to enjy the views from. I think this would be a great spot in Summer time or daylight savings (now until the end of March next year & each year) to enjoy the food & watch the sun setting & the play of colurs on the sky & water. The night we were there, Wednesday August 17, there was a 3 piece group providing music & singing who were quite good too.
Favorite Dish: Because this was organised in advance we had a number of dishes brought out for us all of which I quite enjoyed. Mind you if you are a confirmed carnivore it might be a good idea for you to read what a VT friend of mine leffe3 (Keith Lawrence) writes about it on the second page of his very good Melbourne restaurant tips. He also explains the serving method, but you can check that out on their website just as easily.
I'd be happy to go back again, for the food, the ambience & the views.
If you have the time have a squiz at my second photo which is of one of the dragons in the restaurant (seems more like a restaurant than a cafe to me). They caught my eye so I snapped a shot of one & then when you go to the main page of the website you have to click on the dragon to enter so I thought I'd add my dragon.
