A good day hike from Mcleod Ganj is to Triund. Although steep and tiring, there is a shack shop half way and a few more at the top so you can rest along the way and when you reach the summit.
And the summit is worth it for the views of the snow covered peaks.
Make sure it's a clear day though!!
And if you like there is a Govt shelter to stay up there or you can pitch a tent.
Directions: Walk to Dharamkot and keep walking upwards. All paths lead the same way.
