STELLENBOSCH

I enjoyed my time in Stellenbosch very much. It is known as the heart of South Africa?s wine industry and is argued to be on of the most popular wine routes in the country. The town is rich in Dutch architecture and the streets are shaded with big oak trees. In the town of Stellenbosch there are so many cafés and shops to spend the afternoon in. There is a market offering African art from locals and a grass square for picnics. There are also museums to poke your nose in if you want to know more about the history and of course Stellenbosch University is located in the area as well. The Jonkershoek Nature Reserve is close by offering opportunity for hiking and great views. In October is the annual Strawberry festival where the focus is of course, on strawberries!

We visited the Spier Wine Farm in Stellenbosch and enjoyed it greatly. Cellar tours and wine tasting is available along with a cheetah and bird park. You can touch a cheetah here if you would like. There are restaurants and delis available for dining. You are not allowed to bring your own private picnic on the grounds. Horse back riding is also available. This is a fun place to visit with things for children to do as well.
