The Queen's official residence in Scotland, Holyroodhouse is situated at the end of the Royal Mile.
Founded as a monastery in 1128 the Palace Holyroodhouse is closely associated with Scotland's turbulent past. Most notably it was the residence of Mary Queen of Scots between 1561 and 1567 Mary became bethrothed to French King Henry II's son, the Dauphin Francie in 1558. He succeeded to his father's throne in 1559 making Mary Queen of France as well as Scotland. Mary Queen of Scots is buried in Westminster Abbey.
When you take a tour through Holyroodhouse you will hear all this and much, much more.
When the Queen is at Holyroodhouse, which is the end of June through the first part of July there are no tours.
