"Hoog Soeren - 'mountain' village" Top 5 Page for this destination Apeldoorn Off The Beaten Path Tip by vtveen
Apeldoorn Off The Beaten Path: 50 reviews and 186 photos
Hoog Soeren is situated about 5 km?s west of Apeldoorn and as we (often) go on our bikes to this village we have a constant climb till we reach the ?mountain? of Hoog Soeren, 100 metres above sea level.
Its hilly scenery is unique for the Veluwe, also its location in the middle of vast woods. It is a great starting point for walks in the so-called ?Kroondomeinen? (former in possession of the Dutch royal family). Be aware that parts of the wood are closed for the public from September 16 till December 26, to guarantee some rest to the deer and wild boar.
Originally Hoog Soeren was a small village with some farmers and forestry workers. Nowadays it is a very quiet and notable neighbourhood with lots of beautiful homes situated among the forests. Only in the weekends things get going and sometimes even the main road in Hoog Soeren has (small) traffic jams.
The village has quite an old chapel, still used for services and nowadays also for wedding ceremonies (http://www.kapel-hoogsoeren.nl/gebouwen-kapel.htm).
Hoog Soeren has two hotels with a restaurant and a terrace; nice places for a cup of coffee or tea after a walk or bike tour. There is also a famous pancake restaurant (see 'restaurant' tip).
