a lovely spa with all sorts of body treatments for women, at the fairmont scottsdale princess resort (480/585-4848; separate phone numbers for spa are below). spa appointments every day from 7:45 am to 8:30 pm. the waiting area is very quiet, and they bring you tea, fruit juice, or water (nothing with caffeine, the receptionist actually looked alarmed at my initial request for diet coke!). they have some body treatments for men also.

i had the most luxurious pedicure i have ever had -- the southwest premiere. it lasted about 75 minutes, for $109 plus 18% tip added automatically to the bill. it was worth every cent. this pedicure has a nice mix of moisturizing and exfoliating lotions, including heated lotion treatments. you also get a short shoulder/arm/hand and leg massage and a longer foot massage. you sit in a massage chair with several settings for your back (rollers up, down, steady; speed fast, slow).

go way far north on scottsdale road. be watching for "fairmont scottsdale princess resort" signs. just past bell road, turn right on princess drive, go about a half-mile; follow "willow stream spa" and "parking" signs. from parking lot, take sidewalk toward the buildings about
a half-block. the spa is to the left of the resort shop. it is a little confusing to find but worth the effort.
