"Comfort Diner" Comfort Diner Tip by madamx
Comfort Diner, New York City: 3 reviews and 4 photos
The Comfort Diner is a place where mostly locals go. The vintage exterior is a gem -- all curves and stainless steel. The interior is set up like a traditional diner, with vinyl booths and stainless steel stools, and there's funky touches with mosaic tables and vintage items on display.
The food isn't exceptional, but the atmosphere at dinner is relaxing and quiet -- something that can be difficult to find in Manhattan it seems, and the service was good. I would recommend the Comfort Diner for basic, reasonably-priced food, and it would be a great place to go to if you are travelling with your kids.
Favorite Dish: My friend wanted to try collard greens (which are virtually non-existent in Canada); they could have been cooked a little bit more as she found them a bit tough, but they were fresh and flavorful, fried with bacon and butter. I had the chicken fried chicken -- chicken breast breaded and fried, with gravy, mashed potatoes, and green beans sauteed with shallots and cherry tomatoes. The chicken was a little dry, but overall the dish was pretty good. If you're looking for basic, simply-prepared food, Comfort Diner is the place.
