"Whole Foods Market" Whole Foods Market Tip by madamx
Whole Foods Market, New York City: 3 reviews and 2 photos
Extremely tired after a day of sightseeing and shopping, we just wanted something to eat, and we stumbled into Whole Foods Market. For those who don't know what it is, Whole Foods Market is a supermarket chain in the US, that sells mostly organic foods and they also have a killer prepared food section. Besides groceries, you can get healthy, and well-prepared food for a reasonable pice to take home or, they have a seating area to eat in.
We went to two stores in Manhattan, Union Square and Columbus Circle, and the crowds were overwhelming, kept under control at the cashier by attendants with walkie-talkies who send you to the first available cash register. The only downside of Whole Foods is that the atmosphere can be very loud and chaotic, so if you want to relax to eat your food, you probably want to take out to your hotel room if you can. Even in the riotous atmosphere, the staff were always polite and helpful. You can get a decent meal for about $10.00, which is very cool -- more money for shopping!
Favorite Dish: The sushi is very fresh and excellent; also there's a wide range of hot prepared foods - from macaroni and cheese to shepard's pie, fried chicken, herb roasted turkey breast, and roasted veggies. There is also a hot table with all kinds of Indian food such as chicken tikka masala, brown basmati rice, and somosas, as well as Chinese food. If you want to be super healthy, there's a huge salad bar as well, with prepared as well as green salad, plus a soup selection. You fill your container, then it is weighed and labeled at the counter or the cashier.
Though the food is on a steam table, it's very fresh and good, like homemade. Don't miss out on the mini pies, made with all good ingredients such as organic fruit and butter, yum!
