Behind curtain no. 1 .... Burger Joint!

The Le Parker Meridien Hotel sure has a good thing going with it's restaurants. Burger Joint is a little off the beaten path, and is filled mostly with locals. The restaurant is mysteriously hidden behind a huge expanse of pleated silk chiffon curtain in the hotel lobby, the only other clue of it's existance is a small neon burger lit up by the entrance. The line-ups can be very long, so try to go at about 1:30 pm (when the room instantly cleared) or be prepared to be elbow-to-elbow and crushingly close to your neighbor. Celebrities are known to frequent Burger Joint, so you may find yourself beside Mathew Broderick or Sarah Jessica Parker. When we went, there is one combo you get and one price you pay -- $9.00 for a burger, fries and drink; and that money does not obviously go into the decor, which is straight out of your Aunt Edna's rumpus room: wood panelling, globe lamps painted with roses, and old movie posters.

Favorite Dish: The burgers are about 4 oz, and pretty good, but not exceptional. For the effort to line up and endure someone's elbow in your eye and the stress of scoping out somewhere, anywhere to sit, I don't really think it's worth it for the $9.00, which I think is overall a little pricey for what you get.
