  Andean Lapwing
by SanguiniA

The National Park is situated on the volcano itself and is a fine example of the Paramo flora and fauna. Birders flock to this area to admire the speciality birds. Lake Limpio Pungo (altitude 3840m) is the most visited area, where one can get a closer look at the wildlife and a terrific look at the peak of the mountain. The hiking is spectacular.

Mammals inhabiting this park are the Andean Fox, brocket deers, pumas, white tailed deers and the Andean Speckled Bear. Don't expect to see any of these easily - they are very shy and secretive. For bird lovers there is a good chance of spotting the Andean Lapwing, Andean teal, Andean Gull, Carunculated Caracaras and if you are lucky the Andean Condor.
