This chapel was originally an exent XIV century building that was conceived as the cathedral's capitular room. For some time, it has also been used as theology college and, subsequently, as a burial place for the priests. On occasions it even held the Royal Parliament of the Kingdom of Valence.
The chapel is now annexed to the cathedral and is used for religious services. Until early in the XX century, it was consacrated to the cult of the Christ of the Good Death, but now it hosts the cathedral's most precious relic: the Holy Grail.
This is supposed to be the bowl used by Jesuschrist in the last supper. There are several legends that place the Holy Grail in different points of the world, but according to what Valencians claim, this one was sent by Pope Sistus II to his hometown of Huesca, in the Pyrenees. Later, it fell in the hands of the Kings of Aragon, being the King Alfons V the Magnanim who brought it to Valencia in the XV century.
Researchers have reached the conclusion that the bowl indeed dates back to the I century AC, although the foot and handles are Medieval decorations.
