Zakopane Things to Do: 158 reviews and 325 photos

I definitely recommend visiting Mt. Kasprowy Wierch, which offers some spectacular views from high up in the Tatras Mountains. You can walk 3 km to Kuznice, which is southeast of Zakopane or just walk to the southern end of Zakopane's main street, Krupowki and hop on one of the frequent shuttle buses, vans or regular buses to Kuznice.

When you arrive in Kuznice, you'll be dropped off right at the base of the mountain by the cable car station. I waited about an hour and a half in the line because I didn't have a reservation (and I arrived at 9 am), so do yourself a favor and MAKE A RESERVATION if you're going to take the cable car. This way, you'll be able to use the reservation only line (on the right hand side) and bypass the line entirely. In the hour and a half I was in line, only one group of about 10 people had made a reservation and they were the envy of everyone else!!

Alternatively, you can walk to the top, but that's a serious climb!

The views from the top are spectacular. They were good enough for Pope John Paul II, who revisited in 1997 (he used to ski here a lot when he was young) and a plaque commemorates his visit at the top. You'll be able to see over the surrounding villages, over to Slovakia, and you can hike among some mountain lakes and see various landscapes if you're willing to hike a few kilometers once you're on the top.
