On our drive into the Bayeux area we saw the hedgerows that caused the Americans so much trouble with their tanks. The hedgerows grew up over the ancient stone walls that were there originally. As we drove we listened to a narration about the Normandy Invasion.
Driving into St. Lo we heard about Major Thomas Howie who was killed the day before St. Lo was captured. The area we drove through was absolute chaos during the time of the invasion. The town of St. Lo was rebuilt and is now a modern town, although we did catch a glimpse here and there of quaint old buildings that had been preserved.
We drove through orchards before we came to the American Cemetery.
There were a few clouds in the sky when we were there at 4 PM and a haze was forming over the bluffs of Omaha. The waves were very gentle as we walked along the shore.
