Days 2 : Rathaus area

After my Josefstadt visit, I headed in the direction of the Neues Rathaus (New City Hall).

It was built from 1872 till 1883, in a Neo) gothic style, it was designed by architect Friedrich von Schmidt.

To me it looked very impressive; with its high tower (98 meters), and on top of this tower there is a statue of a knight in armour with a lance (3,5 m high), named the Rathausman.

This New City Hall is richly decorated with statues of important Austrian Nobles.

It was just a pity that as I was visiting Vienna, there was the Film festival, as the screen was placed just in front of the City hall, and like this it covered the front partly.

Also it is not easy to make a photo of the complete building, because of the high trees in the park (Rathauspark) just in front of it.

It was nice to make a walk in the Rathaus park (just in front of the City Hall); there were many benches to rest.
