Called "Fort Charters" by the locals after I took a stab at the Fench pronunciation, Ft. DeChartres is a glimpse back into t atime when the French ruled Illinois. this was thei seat of their power and the center of their administration of the territory. Lost ot the British in the Seven years War, this was the last outpost to be evacuated.
