Duomo - Cathedral, Milan: 195 reviews and 444 photos
While I did get to see the outside of this building when I was in Milan, I could not go in, as I was only wearing a singlet (bare shoulders are not allowed!). But it was a hot day and there seemed to be a lot of tourists going in, so I was happy just to view the Duomo from the outside (maybe next time I'll cover up and go in :-) ).
The Duomo is the 3rd largest Christian Church in the world (impressive). According to www.milanostyle.com/01/duomo.shtml the Duomo has: "145 spires, 155 gargoyles and 3,159 statues (2,245 exterior)". And some of the most beautiful gothic architecture I have ever seen.
I was deeply impressed by the main doors on the front of the Duomo that had recreations of scenes from the Bible on them (in bronze or iron - I'm not sure) - magnificent artwork (check out my photos for a close up of them).
