For a great view of Paris...

There are a variety of places you can 'go up' in order to get a view of the city.

The Eiffel tower is the most obvious choice, but this has two disadvatages : Firstly you can't get a good view of the tower - as you are in it, and secondly it is just too high - you might as well be in an aeroplane.

There are however plenty of other things to ascend which will give you a slightly more human perspective on the metropolis.

Notre Dame Cathedral, The Arc d'triomphe and the Grand Arche La defense are all good choices and will cost you less than 10 Euros to ascend.

The Tour Montparnasse (entry 13 euro 50) is another good choice : it may only be a rather boring 1960's office block, but being situated in the south of the city you get a good over-all view of the city from its panoramic top floor.

You could also use the escalators to the top floor of the Pompideau centre, or just take in the atmosphere on Montmartre, which has a commanding view of the city.
