Aaah, Nice! I never thought I would be so happy to be here! The weather cleared up and the sun tried to break through the thick layer of clouds that I had seen all day. I was even able to see a glimpse of a sunset while walking on the boulevard. The streets were still wet of all the rain, but my mood improved by the minute!
It was late in the afternoon when I arrived in Nice, but I was still able to do a little bit of sightseeing. I strolled through the old town and was pleasantly surprised. Somehow I didn?t expect that much of Nice, but I really enjoyed it here. Small streets and alleys with old pastel coloured houses on either side. There are lots of little shops and it was great to wander around through the crowds and enjoying the nice atmosphere. On one of the little streets I found the Palais Lascaris. I was totally surprised to find out that the entrance was for free, something I hadn?t experienced before at the Côte d?Azur and the Provence. The Palais Lascaris is worth while the visit. In this 17th century palace you can see furniture from that time, admire the painted ceilings, and look at the many paintings and statues. In the evening I went out to dinner on one of the many terraces and enjoyed it a lot. This ?miserable? day turned out to have a very good ending after all :-)
There is of course much more to see and do in Nice than I was able to do in those few hours. But my first impression of Nice was one of pleasant surprise and I would certainly go here again on a next trip to the Provence.
You can read much more about my visit to this city on my Nice page
