In the old city of Omdurman is I think the oldest market in Khartoum. The place is huge and very spread out and you can find almost anything, from handicrafts to clothes to shoes to kitchen articles. The prices are generally okay, but it's more or less hard to avoid to overpay as a foreginer in Khartoum. Just bargain like crazy and/or bring a sudanese friend to bargain for you and tell you what to pay. It shouldn't be hard to find someone to do that for you. Just ask for the direction to somewhere and you'll have a friend for life if you want to. Souq Omdurman is also the place to find local handicraft and souvenirs. But please don't buy anything made from crocodile skin or any other endangered spieces. It's even against the law.

What to buy: Anything really if you've got time and strenght to look for it, but if you want to buy local handicraft and souvenirs this is the best place to go (according to me).

What to pay: Bargain like crazy or bring a local friend that knows approxomately what to pay. Also see my tip about how to bargain on my "Local customs" page.

Directions: In the center of Omdurman, near the big mosque.
