One day we decided to drive as far as we could up Mount Enos. We stopped off in Argostoli for a cooked carry-out (meals in parcels) of chicken and potatoes and pressed on. The views were lovely, becoming hazier by the minute. It wasn't long before we were in the clouds and we couldn't see a thing. Typical. It had been boiling hot and sunny in Argostoli and now we were in thick mist. Our road left the blacktop at a telecommunications station and bumped on for miles. We stopped at a television? mast, it looked like the road ended here, it was difficult to see in the cloud. By this point we were actually above the cloud so were in the sun but couldn't see a thing back down the mountain.
We stopped on the gravelly road side and ate our chcken take-away with relish. Delicious. I'll always remember that meal on the side of Mount Enos!
Mount Enos is a national park, offering protection to the tree Abies Cephalonica. Many were felled and used in industry, particularly boat building, others were lost in great fires in 1590 and 1797, and are now in the process of re-establishing themselves.
Directions: Off the main Argostoli to Sami road.
