WEST COAST NATIONAL PARK
This National Park is located about two hours from Cape Town and offers beautiful scenery, plus peace and quite. In the spring time (August-September) you will see orange, peach, white, yellow, purple and pink wild flowers blanketing the rolling hills. We found that the most flowers were located near the Postberg gate.
Along with many flowers we saw ostriches, tortoises, springbok and many types of birds. There are tranquil opportunities to walk along the bay where many house boats were docked and dig your feet into the white sand. The water in the bay was such a deep turquoise color and even felt a little warmer! There are also beautiful spots to watch the ocean.
The park also offers a restaurant, lodging, whale watching (during peak season), swimming, a shipwreck, biking and hiking trails and places to kite surf, snorkel, kayak and fish.
West Coast National Park is a nice place to visit if you have a few weeks in the Western Cape area. If you are visiting in spring and want to see wild flowers it is also a nice drive if you were not planning on doing the garden route.
