In 1987 this was becoming a tourist trap in the way that every guide book mentioned it as the best beach on the island. I don't agree. Mine was Petani on the Lixouri peninsula.
Myrtos looks simply stunning from above but when you finally reach the beach, the sand is not sand but small pebbles and shingle.
I presume the road is surfaced now, but in 1987 it was one of the worst we had ever travelled on. It started ok but then deteriorated severely with 8 inch ruts and a 1:3 gradient. Not pleasant driving, especially in a hire-car. We did have a flat tyre by the time we reached the beach.
A pleasant enough swim with the water becoming deep very quickly but even in those early days, considering the approach, there were a fair few people there.

Unique Suggestions: There were no facilities on the beach when we were there but I believe there are now and expensive. Take your own provisions and a sun shade as there is no shade in the pm. If you like crowds you'll be ok. (you know me, if there are more than five people on the beach, it's busy!!)

Fun Alternatives: Plenty of other beaches to choose from.
