Day 1 : Schottenring and Alsergrund

This Votiv Kirche (church) is just a piece of great architecture.

It is really worth to stop here, and to take some time to admire the beautiful decorations; there are so many small statues of saints and other important people.

Inside the church there are many chapels, which are devoted to Austrian regiments and heroes of war. The most beautiful monument is the renaissance sarcophagus of Count Nikolas Salm, who defended the city in 1529, against the Turks.

Unfortunately the church was closed when I was there.
And I do not know if it was a coincidence, but this Votiv church was also one of the many monuments, which was covered by a big scaffolding, it really looked as I had chosen the wrong period to visit Vienna and Prague as so many buildings and monuments were surrounded by scaffoldings.
