Gdansk can be called an amber city and it's often named the world amber capitol. Indeed, the Gulf of Gdansk is the place of the world's largest amber deposits. That's why the most known and typical jewelry is made of Baltic amber in Gdansk.
Amber jewelry is available in either numerous amber stores and on street stalls. The quality of amber necklaces and other items sold on a street is either the same or lower than those sold in amber stores. The difference is lower choice and lower quality of service (knowledge of foreign languages, no cards accepted) following by lower price (not always though).
What to buy: Amber jewelry, I liked some rings made of silver and amber.
What to pay: The prices are low and usually (but not always!) lower than in amber stores.
Address: Ulica Dluga, Gdansk
Directions: Along main pedestrian street of Gdansk - Dluga. About 20 - 25 min. from the Main Railway Station (Gdansk Glowny) - on foot.
