"Rhodes Harbour" Rhodes (Island) Things to Do Tip by Tayto

Rhodes (Island) Things to Do: 439 reviews and 881 photos

One of the 7 wonders of the ancient world was reputed to have been built here, namely the colossus at Rhodes harbour. The statue was reported to have straddled the harbour from one pier to the next. Given the span it is unlikely that such a statue existed as described in legend and there is no archeological evidence that this was the case. However, this does not necessarily mean that it didn't exist and with a small amount of imagination you can nearly see it being true.

The harbour is a good place to visit to see the old windmills and take a short stroll on the pier. It is also interesting to look at the yachts and other boats in the harbour and it is possible to get an occcasional invite on board. When I was there natural sponges were for sale from the back of some of the small dive boats but I am not sure if this has continued as a practice ...maybe other VT'ers can update me ?
