"City Hall" City Hall Tip by acemj
City Hall, Boston: 5 reviews and 9 photos
Another I.M. Pei creation, the Boston City Hall and Government Center was built in the 1960s and part of a redevelopment plan for this area. The building includes federal, state and city offices so "Government Center" is probably more appropriate than "City Hall". On my most recent visit to Boston in September of 2005, I visited this area with my friend Andrea who happens to be an architect. I think she likes the building a whole lot more than I do, but we both agreed that the brick plaza surrounding it is really poorly designed. The idea was to draw crowds to the area and to create an enjoyable space for people to gather. Unfortunately, the space is largely wasted as there is little shade and hardly any seating. It is, however, used for performances and exhibitions from time to time.
