"Bus Tours - Cliche but Great" Big Bus London Bay Car Tip by Jase1177

Big Bus London Bay Car, London: 12 reviews and 12 photos

In the minds of many travelers, open-top bus tours can be seen as very touristy, cliche, & cheesey. To whatever extent this is true, the tours give a great chance to see a lot of London. The tours cover routes that show most of the essential sights, while giving you a way to get acclimated to the city's layout.

I used the Big Bus Tours company, which provided a great first day experience. The tour is a continuously running circuit, with open-top buses passing most spots every 15mins or so. The tickets are good for 24 hours and allow you to board & depart at any point in the trip. So, if you want to get off at the British Museum, Westminster Abbey, or whatever, and go in, you can and then hop on a bus to resume the tour. My first day I arrived, I hopped on the bus and saw the sights so that I had a physical sense of where things were in relation to each other. This made finding things so much easier (although I have a great sense of direction, especially in cities).

The Big Bus Tour also provides walking and river tours as part of the price. You can order your ticket online and print it there for use any day. Plus, ordering online saves £2 from the normal price of £20.

There are others that do the tour; the one I remember is the Original Bus Tour company.

I would highly recommend taking a bus tour like this. Aside from the obvious advantages, you can hear someone say "Look kids, there's Big Ben....look kids, there Big Ben again..." :-)
