  Caerlaverock Castle
by stevezero

Caerlaverock Castle is most people's idea of a real castle. old, romantic, turreted and surrounded by a moat. It was built by the Maxwell family originally in the 13th century. it was attacked by Edward I, in 1300 during the Wars of Independence.
It is triangular in shape with a turret at each corner and a double turret at the other.
It was attacked by Covenanters in 1640 and then dismantled. Some coutryard buildings were later added by the earl of Nithsdale.
