Wigtown is a long established town on the Machars peninsular. Its wealth grew as a port, mostly for coastal trade, and it was the chief town of the old county of Wigtownshire.
Today it lays claim to fame as Scotland's National Book Town.
Now there are over 30 book shops and related businesses, including historic newspapers.

Directions: 10kms south of Newton Stewart
