The cave tours are, by far, the most popular attraction here. A wide variety of tours are offered. The shorter tours offer either a brief look at some of the scenic aspects of the cave or an explanation of its history, or both. For those that want to go cave exploring, there are two options: the Wild Cave Tour and the Introduction to Caving. The Wild Cave Tour is a 5 or 6 mile all day adventure of crawling, stooping and scaling your way through the cave. The introduction to caving is a shorter version. Due to its limited availability, the Wild Cave Tour sells out quickly. I called a month ahead of time and could not get it.
The intro to caving proved to me just enough. Its a 3 or 3 1/2 hour tour which does all of the things the wild cave tour does, but at a slower pace and for a shorter time. It is not a scenic tour at all. In fact, its mostly dark, at times muddy and can be uncomfortable. But if you don't mind getting dirty, working a bit and squeezing through tight spaces, its a good option. If you have only a day in the park, I'd recommend this tour as it will allow you some time to visit other, often overlooked points of interest in the park.
If you plan on taking a tour, as most people will want to do, browse the list and descriptions on the park's website and make your reservations as soon as possible. The cave is the main attraction in the park and the only way to see it is on a tour.
