"Palazzo Ducale - Sala del Maggior Consiglio" Palazzo Ducale - Doge's Palace Tip by Willettsworld

Palazzo Ducale - Doge's Palace, Venice: 225 reviews and 482 photos

No photos are allowed to be taken inside the palace but it seems a bit more relaxed in this huge hall. It was used as a meeting palace for the Great Council and for grand State banquets. By the mid-16th century the Great Council had around 2,000 members. Any Venetian of high brith over 25 was entitled to a seat unless he married a commoner.

Tintoretto's huge Paradise (1587-90) occupies the eastern wall (see photo). Measuring 7.45 by 24.65m (25 by 81ft), it is one of the largest paintings in the world.
