"Gasparilla" Gasparilla Tip by aligobs

Gasparilla, Tampa: 5 reviews and 9 photos

Gasparilla is Tampa's celebration of a fabled pirate Jose Gaspar who supposedly raped and pillaged the city of Tampa over a century ago. Strange thing to celebrate but Gasparilla takes place during the entire month of February in Tampa starting with the kidnapping of the Tampa Mayor and ending with the Illuminated Night Parade in Ybor City. There is also a day parade that begins with Tampa's top echelon dressing up as pirates and boarding a pirate ship which sails across the bay into downtown Tampa with thousands of small local boats creating a flotilla. Really exciting and beautiful and something not to be missed if visiting Tampa in February. The Illuminated Night Parade is geared more to the adults which can very much resemble New Orleans at Mardi Gras. Great Fun! Again, not to be missed.
