Le Suffren: "Best Bistro" Paris Restaurant Tip by duncanlbrown

Traditional Brasserie fare in a recently renovated but utterly charming corner spot opposite the Ecole Militaire. This is our favourite staple - every Sunday evening when we arrive back from elsewhere, every "first night" for our visitors, or just for a quiet beer which turns into two then three then four then the munchies.

Being a brasserie, there is a bar - you can stand at the bar while waiting for a table, or all night. The staff are "faux-grumpy" in the style of many Parisians. In fact they are most helpful, quick, efficient, occasionally jovial and always polite.

There is no typical customer - everyone is here. A fair amount of tourists, but often locals, families, officers from across the road, barflys, octogenarians enjoying a weekly feast and always always a madly dressed old woman with a dog on her lap (not always the same woman, mind).

Favorite Dish: Starter - Soup a l'oignon gratinee (cheesy onion soup)

Main - Confit de cuisse de canard with garlic tatties

Pudding - I don't think I've ever got this far!

Wine - 50 cl of Brouilly

Alt - the seafood platters look excellent.... and the salads for the health concious
