"Nieuwe Kerk - the "new church"" Nieuwe Kerk Tip by Airpunk
Nieuwe Kerk, Amsterdam: 46 reviews and 72 photos
The Nieuwe Kerk is surely the most famous church in Amsterdam. It was built by Jacob van Campen (who also built the old town hall, now royal palace) after the former building burnt down in 1645. The most interesting pieces are the tomb of the famous naval hero Michel de Ruyter and a 17th century wooden pulpit. The church is used for the coronation ceremonies of the dutch queens and kings and it was also the church where the wedding between Prins Willem Alexander and Máxima Zorreguieta took place. It also houses art expositions from time to time (The plants you see on the picture were only there because of an exposition about art and nature).
Address: Dam 34-38
Directions: Just next to the royal palace
