  The Ptarmigan, Alaskas statebird

Favorite thing: Alaska has a statebird with a very difficult name: Ptarmigan. It is a close relatives of the grouse, which lives in alpine and arctic tundras.

Ptarmigan look like small grouse, weighing from 0.3 to 0.7 kg except that their toes are feathered, their wings are white all year, and they have pure white body plumage in winter.

Fondest memory: The town of Chicken was actually meant to be called Ptarmigan. But none of the founders could spell it. They then decided to call the town Chicken. This descission has prooved to be a money maker. Today, about 100 years later, many tourists visit Chicken, AK. But when the town of three buildings was called Ptarmigan, would everybody go there?
