"Visas" Visas and Documents Tip by starship

Favorite thing: When I knew we would be visiting St. Petersburg, I did not give serious thought to touring the city on our own. I learned through "AnnK" that if you arrive by ship, you do not need an individual Russian visa as you are covered by the ship's visa. However, if you go this route, be aware that you will not be allowed to be unescorted during your visit. You will not have free time to wander around indescriminately.

If you prefer to high an independent guide for touring, you will need to obtain a individual visa and these cost around US$100 per person. We thought this was quite expensive, but we found the ships excursions to be quite expensive (although very worthwhile) as well. If you are able to strike a good deal with an independent guide or have a friend there, obtaining an individual visa might be a good choice for you so that you can tailor your tour to suit your own wishes.
