Khuangxi Waterfall is approximately 30 or 40km away from Luang Prabang. Nevertheless, it's popular with visitors to L.P. as it is a wonderful place to be. Khuangxi consists of several small waterfalls or cascades with incredibly blue water. You can swim in some of the basins, all of which are not too deep. The water is pretty cold, though, but it's a great experience to swim in the middle of giant jungle trees.
Try to come in the early morning: First of all, it's a pretty long ride to the waterfall (ca. 1hr), second, tourists like to sleep long - therefore there's hardly anybody before 10am.
The waterfall does not dry out during the dry season which makes it an all-year experience.
