Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is the oldest and largest koala zoo in Queensland. It claims to have more than 130 koalas!!! Originally I didn't plan to go there but after my failure in seeing any wild koalas in the nature and under the great recommendation of Kate (my UK friend met in Noosa), I decided to go there.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the first batch of koalas there. I was so close to them. The fences separating vistors and the koalas are of only about 1m height. I felt so close with the koalas!!! The most interesting thing of the zoo is that the koalas are classified into different groups such as retired, kindergarten, bride, babies ...etc and are put in different zones. They're so cute!!! I spent lots of time in front of each group to study them, they're really not identical!!!

You must search for a zone in which koala-kids are put together with their mums. I saw a family of three, a big one (mum?) + a medium one (big brother?) + a tiny one (little brother?), they were amazing!!!

OK, apart from koalas, you can also come close with kangaroos (please read my travelogue), sheep, snakes and other animals like birds.

This is not only an off the beaten path but a must-do activity. Please read my travelogue for sharing my joy with the cutie babes.

$ saving tips:
1. Present your YHA cards at the ticket office for a 1x% discount (forgot the exact amount).
2. Go to its official website www.koala.net to get a free-gift coupon before you go. ( I got a crystal key-ring of a koala mother+son, very lovely!).
